Tips On Staying Active In Cooler Weather

This is the time of year when the natural daylight diminishes Bottle of Wine by Fireplaceand the weather turns cooler and wetter.  We feel our energy levels drop, we become less active and we just want to curl up by a warm fire, watch TV and eat (or have a glass of wine).

Now, more than ever, is the time to get outside and to exercise!  You need to get up and keep moving!  Exercise is ALWAYS important, even on those cold, wet fall and winter days.

Motivation – Easy or Hard?

What is MOTIVATION?  Derived from the Latin word "MOVERE" which means "to move", it's the processes that account for an individual's intensity, direction and persistence of effort towards attaining a goal.

Or, from the dictionary:

Motivation [moh-tuh-vey-shuh n]:
1.  the act or an instance of motivating, or providing with a reason to act in a certain way;  "I don't understand what her motivation was for quitting her job."
Synonyms:  motive, inspiration, inducement, cause, impetus
2.  the state or condition of being motivated or having a strong reason to act or accomplish something:  "We know that these students have a strong motivation to learn."
3.  something that motivates:  "Clearly, the company's long-term motivation is profit."
For some, it's easy to be motivated.  For others, it's a constant struggle.

What’s Preventing YOU From Succeeding?

Desire to Succeed 1This could well be the million dollar question.  If there was an easy answer, then everyone would be succeeding all the time.  But, unfortunately, they're not!  So, I want to share with you  (in a short summary) some observations and ideas of how I believe some of us may be more successful when trying to reach certain goals.  Since it's the nature of my business, I'll focus on health and exercise.  However, you can apply these comments to almost any aspect of your lives.

What Does Your Blood Say About Your Health?

Blood test, blood samples on a laboratory formDid you know that your blood is a cornucopia of information?  When I go for my annual medical check-up I get the usual "routine" blood tests done.  Those tests tell your doctor what your results are for cholesterol level, blood sugar reading, iron level, platelet count, etc.  I am routinely within "acceptable" limits for all those readings and, so, feel there's not much for concern. However, one of the other readings that's not routinely tested for, but was done for a recent test, is "c-reactive protein" or CRP.  An increase of this in your blood is an indicator that there is some inflammation in your body.

Well, action can often come before desire.  So, you don't always have to do the "on your mark" and "get set" stuff, sometimes you can just go!
