Dear Blog-ary: This Training IS Hard Core!

Dear Blog-ary,

I was feeling pretty optimistic about the weather on Thursday afternoon before class. The clouds had parted slightly around 4:30pm and the rain was holding off. Just to be sure I was prepared for anything, I thoughtfully wrapped my feet in bread bags before slipping them into my shoes, to keep them from getting wet in case of a down pour. As I ran out the door I found that my optimism was not enough to save me from what the forecast had in store. The rain was coming down hard!

Dear Blog-ary: It’s All About Strength And Balance

Dear Blog-ary,

Last night's Core and More session was all about strength and balance. After our warm up and tech drills, we gathered on the field behind the parking lot. Loreli gave us a run through of all the stations we were going to be focusing on that night. Instead of working on our own, we were partnered up. Every station required two people. It added a fun dynamic to work alongside someone else.

Dear Blog-ary: I did it! My 1st Ever 5K Fun Run!

Dear Blog-ary,

To avoid disappointment, I had prepared myself to expect the worst kind of weather for Sunday mornings 5K Salmon Run. When I awoke to find a downpour, it was of little consequence to me.  As I prepared my pre-race breakfast of steel cut oats, apples and almond milk, I began to feel a nervous excitement. I was about to participate in my first race ever! I wasn't about to let rain stop me from enjoying every part of this experience.

Dear Blog-ary: It’s “Layer Up For Fitness” Season!

Dear Blog-ary,

The days are getting shorter and there's a distinct crispness in the air, that nods to the changing of seasons. Autumn is finally upon us. And, although we may face colder, rainier workouts ahead of us at Alter Ego Fitness bootcamps, we will remain strong and committed to our cause! Earlier this week I realized that it's finally time to put away my shorts until next season (sigh), and garb myself in the proper Fall workout attire. Even though we're working up a sweat during class, I have an extra warm layer close at hand to keep myself from getting a chill!

Dear Blog-ary: I Need To Train My Thoughts Too

Dear Blog-ary,

Cedar Hill Golf Course is one of my favourite chip trails to run in the city. Nestled beside the green of the golf course, in amongst trees and bushes, it is a beautiful escape from the streets and suburban housing of the surrounding neighbourhood. It's continuous rolling hills, and high resistance trails, make it an ideal place to train!
Having ran this trail before, I knew somewhat of what to expect this Sunday. Being week three, of the "Can You Bear It" 10K running clinic, our runs continue to become longer and more challenging. As physically prepared as I was, when I arrived to this weeks training, I discovered a new aspect to our training.
