Dear Blog-ary: I Need To Train My Thoughts Too

Dear Blog-ary,

Cedar Hill Golf Course is one of my favourite chip trails to run in the city. Nestled beside the green of the golf course, in amongst trees and bushes, it is a beautiful escape from the streets and suburban housing of the surrounding neighbourhood. It's continuous rolling hills, and high resistance trails, make it an ideal place to train!
Having ran this trail before, I knew somewhat of what to expect this Sunday. Being week three, of the "Can You Bear It" 10K running clinic, our runs continue to become longer and more challenging. As physically prepared as I was, when I arrived to this weeks training, I discovered a new aspect to our training.

Dear Blog-ary: Each Lamp Post Is A Training Victory!

Dear Blog-ary,

What is it people love most about Willows Beach? It could be the view of Mount Baker. Perhaps it's the soft sandy beach. Maybe it's the shaded grassy areas perfect for napping. How about the lamp posts? Ever noticed the continuous row of green lamp posts lining the board walk above the sand? I can honestly say that I have never given much notice to the lamp posts at Willows beach, until recently. If I have neglected them in the past I certainly payed homage to them in Thursday nights workout!

Dear Blog-ary: I Love Upper Body & Core Training!

Dear Blog-ary,

Is it really week three? I can hardly believe it!
By the end of this week, I'll be half way through my 6-week progressive Training Session. One exciting new development - last night I handed in my signed registration form for the 5K Salmon Run next week! I'm feeling mixed emotions as it is my first ever 5K race. Hopefully it will motivate me as I prepare for November's Bear Mountain 10K. But, tonight's session wasn't as much about running as it was about upper body strengthening.

Dear Blog-ary: An Up Hill Training Battle

Dear Blog-ary,

Week 2 training in the "Can You Bear It?" 10K running clinic was somewhat of an up hillbattle. After a good warm up, on a sunny path of the Royal Roads Campus, we stood and faced our newest challenge. The hill was neither monstrous or cliff-like as I had feared. I felt confident in my ability and I was eager to get started on the work that lay ahead of me.

A line (quite literally) was drawn in the sand and we all took a semi serious racing stance. Our objective was to run up the hill at a pace we could afford to maintain on subsequent hill repeats.

Dear Blog-ary: Workout With A Breathtaking View!

Dear Blog-ary:

Yesterdays class met at Gyro beach. In the past we've gathered on the grass, under the shade of the trees. Sometimes we venture off, away from the crowded areas to find a set of hidden stairs to climb. Last night's session was a first for me, as we enjoyed our entire workout on the sand, facing the water. Cadboro Bay inlet was incredibly calm. As the workout progressed I could track the semi-transparent moon as it inched upwards in the sky above a cluster of sailboats calmly anchored in the bay. Although we were focusing at our stations and concentrating on our technique, we all took a moment to admire the breathtaking view.
