In A Dragon Boat, Even A “Small” Mistake Can Be Serious!
I want to go back a bit, to some of the earlier practices in preparation for the Gorging Dragons crews heading to Italy for the Club Crew World Dragon Boat Championships, and talk a bit about how I realized that I had a lot more to learn as I go from being a "drummer" to a "DRUMMER" in a world class boat.
The Drummer Must Really “Feel” The Dragon Boat!
In one of my first blog posts in the series - "My Journey To The Club Crew World Dragon Boat Championships" - I alluded to the fact that I had quite the learning curve to prepare for the races in Italy.
I understood what it meant to "feel the boat", but I really didn't actually "FEEL" the dragon boat. Sure it was moving and of course the paddlers were paddling hard, but along the course I needed to hone my skills and "feel" the boat as it "sank" (not really) or maybe "bumped" or just the feeling of "slogging along".
Victoria Dragon Boat Festival Is Done – Now We Focus On The ‘Taper’

Today is the "day after" a busy weekend of competing in the Victoria Dragon Boat Festival. This wasn't only our last festival before we compete in the World Club Crew Championships. Victoria is also our "home turf" Festival and one of my most favourite festivals of all time. I've competed in the Victoria Dragon Boat Festival for over 10 years, on several different teams, and every year it's been a great experience as a paddler.
This year, it was really great to once again see so many familiar faces, from the many different clubs around the city, and to race against many of my friends and past crew mates.
