What Are Your Fitness Goals For 2013 . . And Beyond?

Are YOU like Calvin and, as far as you're concerned, think that you're perfect the way you are?  Probably not.  In fact, when asked, a majority of us will readily admit that there are things about ourselves that we’d like to, or are planning to, change or improve.  One of the things most often revealed as needing change is our physical fitness and health.  It seems that, during our busy day-to-day lives, we can find the time for a lot of other “stuff”, but ensuring that we’re fit and healthy doesn’t usually make the priority list.

Personally, I think this is really sad and foolish.  If you stop and think about it, some of that other "stuff" that occupies our time is actually far less important than maintaining your health and well-being. So, I'm pretty sure that almost everyone could (with a little thought and planning) make more than sufficient time in their schedule to fit in some regular exercise.

Our health is a huge determining factor in our approach to many other facets of our life.  It affects our moods and, by extension, how we interact with those around us. It determines our ability, or lack thereof, to stave off illness and disease.  It’s an extremely important component in determining our potential life span.  It IS very much worth taking care of!  Unlike cats, we only get one life.  And, we only have one body to carry us through that life.  Doesn’t it make sense to take really good care of that body?

It’s a new year, and a perennial time when people will make promises to themselves about changing some aspect of their life.  Will this be the year that you make the time to make positive changes to your health and fitness?  If so, Alter Ego Fitness is here to help.  It's what we do, what we're passionate about.  But, please don’t think of it as a “resolution”, they’re too often forgotten or neglected after only a few weeks.  And, they’re usually presented, and thought of, in a negative or unfavourable tone.  So, think of it as a “goal”, something positive to strive for or work towards.  You don’t need to commit to a “forever” goal now.  If necessary, start small and build on your success. When you reach that one, you don't have to wait for a new year to start, set a new goal.

With that in mind, what fitness goal do you have for the next month? The next 6 months? Or, the next year?  Please share them with us.  You know, if you say it “out loud”, you may be more inclined to stick with it and succeed.

Thanks for this Loreli — well said as always. I’m putting my goals out there. This week — do the 3 day cleanse you posted from Hungry for Change. Back to work with a vengeance this week, so when the stress comes (which it will!) my goal is to get out for a brisk walk with Murphy for at least 20 minutes, twice a day. I know that will help. This month: back to push ups/abs before bed. Six months: Training for the Tough Mudder in June! I’m sure I could break it down into smaller bites than this, but you get the drift! Robyn leaves in less than a month, so I know that having these goals to focus on will be a good thing! Happy New Year Y’all!!

I enjoy hearing your goals and I’m also happy to hear that you enjoy the tips and links I give out through our Alter Ego Fitness Experience Facebook page.

Taking a break from stress at work is a very good idea! It helps unclog the mind as well as gives you some fresh air and exercise! Watch out on those abs though, you want to strengthen the back as well so you aren’t hunched over. And, remember, sit ups and crunches are NOT the best method to strengthen the abdominals. You’ll also want to work on strengthening your stabilizer muscles too so you can destroy all those obstacles in the Tough Mudder event. We’ll be focusing on some Tough Mudder exercises in our March bootcamps. Happy New Goals to you too!
