Recipe – Candied Nuts

Candied nut mixtureThis great tasting nut mixture recipe was created through a bit of trial and error.  We normally have a batch done up for the holidays and have even gifted some to family and friends.  It always seems to be a hit!

Ingredients:

2 cups  Pecan halves

2 cups  Cashews, unsalted

1 cup    Peanuts, unsalted

1/2 cup  Sesame seeds, raw

1/3 cup  Maple syrup, organic

1 tsp   Cinnamon

1 tsp   Nutmeg

Preparations:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Combine maple syrup, cinnamon, and nutmeg in small measuring cup.

Combine nuts and sesame seeds in a large bowl.

Pour the syrup and spices over the nut mixture and stir until well mixed.

Cover a flat baking sheet with parchment paper.

Spread the nut the mixture on the baking sheet so that it’s roughly a single layer of nuts.

Bake for approximately 15 – 20 minutes.  Don’t bake too long or the maple syrup will begin to burn.

Allow nuts to cool before separating, into small clusters or individual nuts, with your hands.

Variations:

You can change up the quantities, of each type of nut, or substitute your favourite.

And, if you prefer a spicier flavour, you can experiment substituting your favorite seasoning (ginger, cajun, cayenne) in place of the cinnamon and/or nutmeg.
